Visit me at Seattle's historic Pike Place Market year round! (See Instagram for schedule.)

CUSTOMER SPOTLIGHT: Take a little bit of Pike Place Market home with you.

Today, we are putting the spotlight on one of my lovely customers named Jolene, a physician who recently moved from Seattle to San Diego to be closer to her daughters' grandparents.

Jolene, who took her family to Pike Place Market at least once a week, says:  "[Pike Place Market] was so fun and definitely a big thing we miss in Seattle."

On her last visit to Pike Place Market before her big move, Jolene bought a bouquet of Catshy Crafts felt flowers.

"We lived in Seattle for two years and when we moved earlier last year, I wanted to bring a little bit of Pike Place Market back with me. And so now it sits on my desk as a reminder of a place I love. Thank you for the beautiful felt flowers!!! I’m a big fan."

Jolene, who is an avid gardener and flower aficionado, shares photos of her flower garden on her Instagram account @bloomsafterhours.

She was gracious enough to answer a few questions about her love for flowers and her favorite spots at Pike Place Market.

Hope you enjoy this fun interview!

Q:  How do flowers make you feel when you look at them?

A: Flowers bring me joy, and they remind me of the beauty in this world. I am a huge fan of Marie Kondo’s theories on surrounding yourself with things that spark joy. (I highly recommend her decluttering methods before moving as well!)

Q: Are they easy to display?

A: They are easy to display - just as long as the way that you do it brings you joy! For expert advice on flower display, I recommend “A Year in Flowers” by Erin Benzakein, an amazing flower grower in Skagit Valley at Floret Farms.

Q: Would you change anything about the flowers?

Maybe making them easier to grow (and easier ways of managing pests organically in a way that is safe for myself, my kids, and my dog).

Q: Would you give them as a gift? To whom? On what occasion?

They make perfect gifts for any occasion. Or just because! One of my favorite memorable flower bouquets I received was when my husband got me a bouquet for my birthday, which also came with a photo of my daughter holding them at Pike Place Market (attached below). It was a beautiful abundant pale pink peony bouquet.

Q: How else would you display your flowers, if any.

I stick the flowers in whatever I have at home - most recently, I stuck them into repurposed yogurt jars, as my flowers are still quite short! Mason jars also work well, and they work well to give away to other people.

Q: What was your favorite part of Pike Place Market? What other shops did you frequent ?

There are so many things I miss about Pike Place Market! We love walking down the flower aisles. My husband would usually disappear at this point, because I was so indecisive, he didn’t want to get involved! And I would also take forever. I would buy flowers weekly, and it was really fun when the vendors started to recognize me.

One of the biggest reasons why I started growing my own flowers was that I missed the fresh flowers I used to buy at Pike Place Market.

We also really miss the food there - we loved gyros at Mr. D’s, curry beef hom bow at Mee Sum Pastry, sausages at Uli’s, Beecher’s Mac and Cheese, Ellenos yogurt, and happy hour at the Athenian.

We also miss taking the ferry to Bainbridge Island. The ride itself was the highlight - one of the last things we did in Seattle before we moved out was to take a ferry ride at sunset. We took it to the island, and took the same boat back!

Hope you enjoyed the interview!
